Psalm 48

Vers 1
De HEER is groot; elk zing' Zijn lof
In Salems stad en tempelhof,
Waar onze God, bij zuiv're tonen
Op Zijnen heil'gen berg wil wonen.
Hoe schoon, hoe welgelegen,
Wat vreugd voor d' aard', wat zegen,
Is Sions berg! hoe groots, hoe blij,
Hoe heerlijk aan de noorderzij'!
Wie is 't, die niet de Godsstad roemt,
De stad des groten Konings noemt?

Vers 2
In haar paleizen vestigt God
Zijn troon, wordt daar erkend, een slot,
Een hoog vertrek voor 't volk te wezen;
Geen vorsten heeft men daar te vrezen.
Pas hadden zij, verbonden,
Den tocht zich onderwonden,
Pas hadden zij de stad in 't oog,
Of hun verwond'ring steeg zo hoog
Dat, Sion slechts van ver te zien,
Hen straks van schrik terug deed vliên.

Vers 3
Daar greep hen beving aan, vervaard,
Vol smart, gelijk een vrouw die baart.
Zo doet G' een oostenwind de kielen
Van Tarsis' vloot in zee vernielen.
Wij zagen, 't geen onz' oren
Voorheen slechts mochten horen,
In deze stad, den troon der eer
Van God, der legerscharen HEER.
Hij zal, door macht en kloeke daân,
In eeuwigheid haar vast doen staan.

Vers 4
Wij, o verheven Majesteit,
Gedenken Uw weldadigheid
In't midden van Uw heil'ge woning.
Gelijk Uw naam is, grote Koning,
Bij ons terecht geprezen,
Zo is Uw roem gerezen,
En bij de volken zeer vermaard,
Tot aan het uiterst' eind der aard.
Uw rechterhand, die't kwaad niet duldt,
Is met gerechtigheid vervuld.

Vers 5
Dat Sions berg weergalm' van vreugd,
Laat Juda's dochters zijn verheugd,
Wijl Gij haar vijand sloegt in 't strijden.
Gaat Sion rond aan alle zijden;
Telt al de vestingwerken
En torens, die 't versterken;
Ja, ziet met een oplettend oog,
Paleizen steig'ren hemelhoog,
En stout verduren al 't geweld,
Opdat gij 't aan uw kroost vertelt.

Vers 6
Want deze God is onze God;
Hij is ons deel, ons zalig lot,
Door tijd noch eeuwigheid te scheiden:
Ter dood toe zal Hij ons geleiden.

Psalm 48

1 A Song [and] Psalm for the sons of Korah.
Great [is] the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, [in] the mountain of his holiness.

2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, [is] mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

4 For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

5 They saw [it, and] so they marvelled; they were troubled, [and] hasted away.

6 Fear took hold upon them there, [and] pain, as of a woman in travail.

7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.

9 We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

10 According to thy name, O God, so [is] thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.

13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell [it] to the generation following.

14 For this God [is] our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide [even] unto death.
