Psalm 80

Vers 1
Neem, Isrels Herder, neem ter oren;
Die Jozefs kroost, door U verkoren,
Als schapen gunstig hebt geleid;
Die enen troon van heiligheid
U tussen cherubs hebt gesticht;
Verschijn weer blinkend met Uw licht.

Vers 2
Die glans straal' Efraïm in d' ogen;
Toon Benjamin Uw groot vermogen;
Verlos Manasse tot Uw eer;
Getrouwe Herder, breng ons weer;
Verlos ons, toon ons 't lieflijk licht
Van Uw vertroostend aangezicht.

Vers 3
Hoe lang, o HEER der legermachten,
Verwerpt Gij, toornig, onze klachten?
Hoe lang verlaat G' ons in den nood?
Gij spijst Uw volk met tranenbrood;
Gij drenkt het, in zijn jammerstaat,
Met tranen, uit een volle maat.

Vers 4
In 't bitter leed, dat wij verduren,
Zien w' ons aan onze nageburen,
Helaas, door U ten schimp gesteld,
Ons door hun twisten neergeveld;
Wij zien, daar ons hun haat vertreedt,
Hen spotten om ons harteleed.

Vers 5
Laat ons, o God der legermachten,
Niet vruchtloos op Uw bijstand wachten;
Ga onzen haat'ren zelf te keer;
Getrouwe Herder, breng ons weer;
Verlos ons; toon ons 't lieflijk licht
Van Uw vertroostend aangezicht.

Vers 6
Gij vondt in ons een welbehagen;
Gij bracht, o God, in vroeger dagen,
Uw wijnstok uit Egypteland;
Gij zelf hebt gunstig hem geplant,
Voor hem de volken uitgeroeid,
Hem plaats bereid, hem mild besproeid.

Vers 7
Hij heeft zijn wortels uitgeschoten;
De bergen werden door zijn loten,
Als waren 't ceed'ren, overdekt;
Hij heeft zijn ranken uitgestrekt,
In zijnen bloei en frissen staat,
Tot aan de zee, tot aan d' Eufraat.

Vers 8
Waarom hebt Gij zijn muur verbroken,
Hem van Uw zorg en hulp verstoken?
Men plukt, men trapt hem met den voet;
Het boszwijn heeft hem omgewroet,
Het wild gediert' hem afgeweid,
Daar 't zich door 't ganse land verspreid.

Vers 9
Keer weer, o God der legermachten,
Tot ons, die op Uw bijstand wachten;
Zie uit den hogen hemel neer;
Herstel Uw wijnstok als weleer,
Den stam ter liefd' Uws Zoons geplant,
Dien Gij gesterkt hebt door Uw hand.

Vers 10
Hij ligt verbrand en afgehouwen.
Als Gij verwoest, wie zal dan bouwen?
Uw hand zij over 's mensen Zoon,
Dien G' U gesterkt hebt tot den troon.
Zo leven wij, door U bevrijd,
Altoos aan Uwen dienst gewijd.

Vers 11
Behoud ons, HEER der legermachten,
Zo zullen w' ons voor afval wachten;
Zo knielen w' altoos voor U neer.
Getrouwe Herder, breng ons weer;
Verlos ons, toon ons 't lieflijk licht
Van Uw vertroostend aangezicht.

Psalm 80

1 To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim-Eduth, A Psalm of Asaph.
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest [between] the cherubims, shine forth.

2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come [and] save us.

3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

9 Thou preparedst [room] before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof [were like] the goodly cedars.

11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

12 Why hast thou [then] broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch [that] thou madest strong for thyself.

16 [It is] burned with fire, [it is] cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man [whom] thou madest strong for thyself.

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
